Service Description

This is a 6-week class held at our Temescal location. We are excited to announce our first alternative firing 6-week class! This is an intermediate throwing class that requires the ability to throw vases on the wheel. We will be using Bmix with grog and doing the specialty firings outdoors in our raku kiln. Ferric firing (often called ferric chloride firing) is an alternative pottery finishing technique. Potters apply a ferric chloride solution to ceramic pieces and heat them in a pit, raku kiln, or foil saggar. The chemical decomposes under heat, and the iron vapors react with the clay surface to create vibrant, organic colors.
